this week is sandwiched between live music. we trekked to atlanta saturday night to see deerhunter (awesome as always) then this coming saturday it's up to knoxville for the big ears festival for the 802 tour. i cannot tell you how excited i am to see that show. it's almost all i can think about this week. the only tune featuring sam amidon off of nico muhly's album mothertongue has been with me constantly since i first heard it a few years ago and just the chance that i might see it live is enough to distract my thoughts for the entire week.

i'm working on 4 or 5 small projects right now and my usual method of skipping from one to the next at random and having everything going on at once isn't working for me. i feel scattered and unfocused. or maybe that's just this late winter slump. i'm interested to hear how other artists' studio day goes down because i might start working on a daily schedule (discipline!) with self-set start and end dates for each project. it seems like an obvious way to work but i've never practiced it. i need to reign in the spacey wanderer that is my creative process. just a bit.

the power of the pentatonic scale

World Science Festival 2009: Bobby McFerrin Demonstrates the Power of the Pentatonic Scale

music and science are two of my loves and the combination in any sense always makes me smile. radiolab released a podcast during their second season called musical language and i think i've listened to it twenty times at least. you can scroll down on the right side of their website and stream it there.

i have a showcase open again over at papernstitch. there may or may not be a special sale in my etsy shop for papernstitch customers next weekend (march 13 and 14) so keep your eyes open. insert obnoxious wink here.

i recently sent a file to brooklyn for a self-print job and was lucky enough to get a picture back of the finished and framed piece. my first thought was "wow, that turned out great." the second was "oh my god, i want their couch!" thanks neely!

i have managed to put over 1000 miles on my little car in the last 8 days. it's been busy but great times. i held a collage workshop for over 70 ladies in birmingham (thanks guys it was fun), picked up a friend in atlanta this past weekend and brought her back to the best pool hall in chattanooga (maybe in tennessee) and relaxed a little. now i find myself at a point where a to-do list is necessary. the big dates and events are passed for now and i have a few group shows coming up and some ideas to put to paper. studio time again! yay!

thanks everyone for the mentions this past week. i am finding some excellent and beautiful blogs.
