holiday sale!!

there was some talk around the thanksgiving table as to what sales people will be attending tomorrow and what god-awful time they will be waking up in the morning to do so. (i'm a morning person and early riser but not when rising is immediately followed by lots of cold and lots of people.) but it did put me in the spirit, i must admit. so i'm having a sale in my shop over the weekend. two different ones, in fact. from now until tomorrow i will be offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on prints until midnight on the 27th. just enter the print you would like, of equal or lesser value, in the message section of your order. then starting saturday morning and the remainder of the weekend through the end of cyber monday there will be a free shipping sale!

i've also added a few new prints for the occasion so go have a look!

i hope all of my u.s. friends had a great holiday.

i now have prints available at the wonderful canteen art shop and gallery in ottawa!

it's a really beautiful space and i feel honored to be there.

perusing their site over the weekend i stumbled across the work of sebastian millar. there is a small interview here. his work is so striking and wonderful to me and i was a more than a little disappointed to see that the barn owl has already been snatched up by some lucky person.

works in progress

i have been working this past week despite the "all i've been doing is drinking coffee and watching movies" implications of the previous post. a lot of work, actually. my solo show seems far away but i know i'll blink and it will be here. i have a to-do stack on my (remarkably and abnormally tidy) desk to tackle next week.

they always carve a set and paint a set. we can really move through some pumpkins around here. they stayed with their aunt the last two nights so when they first arrived home, between the absolute lack of sleep and amount of sugar coursing through their blood streams, they had the emotional stability of a menopausal valley of the dolls rehab clinic. but now finally calm...and ready for trick or treating...which is of course more sugar and less sleep. but it's what we do, right? halloween ftw.

happy halloween!

it's been a horror-movie love fest all week in the house. the boy is all about the zombie movies and i could watch an asian ghost story every afternoon and never get sick of it so it's rare that we both fall in love with the same film. until wild zero!

this is how we spent our halloween morning with coffee. it was so much fun, the music is awesome and it has everything...

"crazy rock managers in very tight shorts, transsexuals, naked women shooting guns in the shower, and bloodthirsty zombies ready to tear them apart. Leather jackets, loud over-modulated music, laser guitar picks, motorcycles, guns, muscle cars, and fire "

e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.

yesterday i watched a tale of two sisters while i worked thinking i could give it half my attention and get something done as well. that lasted all of twenty minutes before i was glued to the screen. it's incredible. a great story and it's breathtakingly beautiful. i had to resist the urge several times to pause and take screenshots.

new prints!

i forgot to mention earlier that i've added 4 new prints to my etsy shop! trees and foxes and boys. that sounds about right.

shut away

i'm in serious work mode making an absolute mess of my space with several projects at once. not even i entirely know what's happening here. a lot. everything comes together in the end but sometimes when i'm working on several pieces at once on the same surface i just stop and think...what the hell is going on? another side effect of the mess, i've lost a pair of feet. they'll turn up eventually just like the missing hands did last week. one little breeze and it's an anatomy free-for-all.

a few things that have caught my eye this week...

this is edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros performing their song home in an in-store gig in august. this song was on a summer mix that i mentioned a few weeks back and has completely won me over. you can't help but smile.

i stumbled upon and read alexander pushkin's the dead princess and seven knights over the weekend - a story based on the grimms' snow white with a more deliciously dramatic title. it was exactly that hint of darkness that reminded me of one of my favorite sets of illustrations. i found them through a blog that has become a weekly addiction, a journey round my skull. the book is tales of mystery and imagination by e.a. poe, illustrated by the always wonderful harry clarke.

you can see the full set here.

kings among runaways

doppelgänger

we choose the in-between

i'm enjoying these guys so much. as soon as they are cut from their page they seem to take on a little personality of their own. a nice little set of runaways.

it's finally feeling like fall here. a little. this is the first week where you can step outside without sweating and perfect for hoodies in the morning. i have the decemberists on my ipod at the desk which i seem to always crave along with darjeeling tea when that first timid push of cooler air comes in and zaps the humidity. eric was home last week on staycation and we lived like a retired florida couple. swimming, morning movies on the couch, a lot of good food and jack and cokes in the afternoon. a perfect last week of summer.
